Modelling and animating 3D photorealistic watch
(Swift3D advance tutorial part 1)
Title : Modelling and animating 3D photorealistic watch Software : Swift3D v4.0. Level : Advance. Author : Minopharma.
In this tutorial I will try to explain how to use all components and editors in Swift3D through the steps of modelling and animating 3D photorealistic animated watch!

So, we'll use this steps to make something like this one above:
1.Making a watch body and its texturing with bitmap texture (the watch face) using the Extrusion Editor.
2.Making and texturing the watch hands.
3.Modelling the bottom detail ( seconds counter ),its texturing and animating.
4.Modelling and texturing the base of the watch using the Advanced Modeler Editor.
5.Modelling the glass element using the Lathe Editor tools.
6.Finishing the project and making some details.
Let's start!
Making a watch body and its texturing with bitmap texture (the watch face) using the Extrusion Editor
1.Open Swift3D and set the width and height to 640x480 pixels.
2.Open Extrusion Editor and with the Create Circle Path tool create circle like in the picture below.

3.Now, back to the Scene Editor. You will see your extrusion ( circle) that is converted in 3D form like in the picture below.

4.In the properties panel, select Bevels and for the Smoothness and Mesh Quality make changes like in this picture.

5.Now with the Scaling Mode tool, resize your cylinder to make it smaller ( see picture).

6.Now texture your face of the watch body with the watch texture using the method of bitmap texturing. With this you will get the result like in this picture.

7.Now, right click over the Top viewport to activate it, once click your cylinder and from the Reflective Materials choose Reflective Orange material to texture the gray area of your cylinder!

8.Now, in the properties panel, click on Object and add the name for your cylinder, for example bodywatch.
Making and texturing the watch hands
1.Click on the blank area in the Front viewport.
2.Now, open Extrusion Editor and with the Add Point tool draw a form like this in the picture below.

3.Select this point ( see picture ) and with the Curve Point tool try to make the edges smooth(see pictures).

*** Try to make this with the points marked in the picture below and you'll make something like this one (see right picture)!

4.Now, back to the Scene Editor, and in the properties panel set the Smoothness and Mesh Quality to Smooth and High, click on Object in the Properties panel and add name H-hand.
5.Now, click on the Sizing and set the depth for H-hand to 0.02 ( see picture below).

6.With the Scaling Mode toll resize your H-hand to make it smaller( see picture).

7.Right click on the Top viewport to activate it, once click your H-hand to select it and with the down and left arrows on your keyboard, move your selected object to locate it to the center of the watch face.

*** Note: Because our H-hand is still larger than the watch face, we must to resize it to make something like this!

8.Now we must to make a small gap between the H-hand and watch face. To do this, activate the Top viewport ( right click), zoom your top scene (press Alt + right mouse click + drag up for zoom in or drag down for zoom out) and move your right hand like in this picture.

*** Note: Also you can use the pan tool to move your scene ( Alt + left mouse click + drag).
8.The next step is creating the Minute hand (M-hand).To make this, follow the same steps for creating the H-hand (steps 1-7).
9.When you will finish with the M-hand, locate it over the H-hand like in the picture below.

10.Now we'll must to make the point of rotation of our hands! To make this, open Lathe Editor and with the Add Point Tool draw something like this!

With the Curve Point tool select and make the points ( see the picture) like in the pictures below!

11.Now back to the Scene Editor. You will see something like this!

12.If your new object is still selected ( if it is not , select it), goto the Properties panel and in Lathe/Segmentation set the Radial Segments value to 64.Click on Object in the Properties panel and add the name for this object for example centralpoint.
13.Now, in the rotation properties, press the Lock Vertical button, set the rotation angle to 90o(degrees) and in drag the object inside the gray ball down.See this pictures (step by step)!

14.Now, right click on the Top viewport to activate it and with the down arrow key on your keyboard move your object ( see picture).

15.With Scaling Mode tool, resize the object to the real size and locate it to the center of the watch face ( see picture).

16.Now , select your minute hand (M-hand) and in the Properties panel/Position click button Move Pivot Only. With this operation we'll move M-hand to the 15min of the facewatch!See the next pictures to do this(drag the m-hand in the gray ball to the right-picture3)!

*The final result is shown below!

17.Now,goto the Materials Panel /Glossy and choose black color to add texture to the H-hand, M-hand and centralpoint. The final result is shown below!

18.Now, press Shift key on your keyboard and with mouse arrow click the hands (H and M) and central point (multiple selection), and in the main menu/Arrange click Group to group the selected objects in one.In the Properties panel, click objects and add name for the group ( for example: watchhands).
