Hi all, this is my first attempt at a tutorial so bear with me.What i will be showing you is some drawing techniques in photoshop to create a box with a shape rising from it
Step1... create a new document 730 x 250 pixels, 72 pixels per inch and white background step2... new layer-pen tool(p)-draw a shape as in figure 1- selct paths pallete- right click path and say make selection(feather radius 0, anti alias on)
step3... create new layer-fill selection with light gray (or colour of you choice)- deselect
step4... reset colours (d) to black and white be sure to name your layers else it will get a bit confusing-right click layer and select blending options- pattern overlay-load colour paper patterns-click three rows down and second from right- scale 50% opacity-100%
click gradient overlay-linear- foreground to transparent-blend mode multiply-angle 60 degrees opacity 50%- scale 60%
step5... new layer- pen tool- draw shape as in figure2-select paths pallete- right click and make selection and fill with colour. right click first layer and say copy layer style- paste on layer two but change gradient angle to 120 degrees.

step6... We now have the front of our box... create new layer and draw shape as in figure3-select paths pallete- right click and make selection and fill with colour.move layer below layer one and two.paste layer style- set opacity to 70%
step7... new layer- draw shape as in figure 4-select paths pallete- right click and make selection and fill with colour.move layer below layer one and two.paste layer style- set opacity to 70%
step8.... ctrl click layer one and then select right back layer (layer 3)-press delete ctrl click layer two and then select left back layer(layer 4)-press delete you now have cut out shapes for the back of the box instead of ful panels.
the box looks a little thin though so...ctrl+j copy layer 1. delete layer styles and ctrl click copy and fill with white. move layer copy below layer 1. press up arrow and set opacity to 60% select forground colour as light brown-select blending modes-gradient overlay reflected gradient- foreground to background- scale 150%
repeat above step for rest of box. you should have soething like this now..
step 9... nearly there...draw shape as in figure 5- create new layer and draw shape as in figure3-select paths pallete- right click and make selection and fill with colour. paste layer style. delete gradient effect. repeat for left hand side of the box.
step10.... box should be looking pretty good now but to make it look even better-create new layer above layer one but below box flap that was just drawn- airbrush size 50 opacity 30% brush a shadow below the flap. repeat for left side of the box

step11... now for the star...create new layer-select custom shape tool and select flower shape in the second row second from left.draw shape small enough to fit in the box. place it above the box and click blending options. drop shadow-multiply-opacity 20 - angle 120 degrees - distance and size 5- contour half round inner shadow- colour dodge-angle 120 - distance 7 - choke 10 - size 3 outer glow-white - opacity 75% - size 15 - range 50 bevel and emboss - inner bevel - depth 131 - size 3 - soften 2 - satin - blend mode multiply - opacity 50% - distance 11 - size 14 - contour gaussian gradient overlay - opacity 66% - angle 131 degrees - gradient blue, red, yellow
step12... copy star layer- move behind layer - delete all layer styles - add blending mode - gradient overlay-spectrum- filter blur - motion blur- angle 90 degrees distance 40
step 13... finishing touches... add a beam of light from outside the box by creating a new layer make a rectangular selection. fill with gradient- reflected - white to transparent- deselect -ctrl+t to transform - make top wide and bottom narrow to fit in box. set blending mode to overlay.

On a new document- fill black background black- render lens flare any setting will do - click channels pallette - ctrl+shift click red then green then blue - this will make a selection of the flare only - drag the selection to you box document and resize to fit the star shape- set blending mode to screen.
Add some text to the right and give it an effect like this - colour overlay - any colour satin - Blend Mode: Multiply Color: #9E9E9E Angle: 19 Distance: 11 Size: 14 Contour: Invert, No anti-aliasing bevel and emboss - Style: Inner Bevel Technique: Smooth Depth: 100 Direction: Up Size: 5 Soften: 7 Angle: 120 Altitude: 30 Highlight Mode: Screen Highlight Color: White Highlight Opacity: 75% Shadow Mode: Multiply inner shadow - Blend Mode: Color Dodge Opacity: 43% Angle: -45 Distance: 7 Choke: 10 Size: 3 drop shadow.- use your own setting outer glow- use your own setting
finally after that long winded tutorial, you should have this...You can check out the full size at outside the lines your comments are welcome....hope this is helpful to someone out there!! In the next tutorial i will show you how to make a simple animation like i did on the site.
